BEST PRACTICES & STRATEGIES | MASTERS & SHELLS
BEST PRACTICES & STRATEGIES | EVA
Where can you go to get ideas for EVA activities?
  • Going to your colleagues first may prevent you from reinventing the wheel.
  • If you have access to a version of the course from a previous instructor, this may provide a feasible framework.
SAMPLE EVA ACTIVITIES

Discussion Board

A discussion board for the students to introduce themselves to their peers

-OR-

Syllabus Quiz

A syllabus quiz that highlights important parts of the course and would be most beneficial for the students’ success

for example, questions centered around withdrawal, responsibility, and process:

  • What is the last day of withdrawal from this course?

  • Who is responsible to withdraw you from this course?

  • How many days can pass before you are dropped from this course?

  • How many posts must you reply to in your discussion boards?

  • What percentage is your report worth?

  • What percentage is your proposal worth?

  • What percentage is your argument worth?

Try to avoid

One question syllabus quizzes along the lines of, "I have read the syllabus" True or False.

-OR-

"Enter your name to acknowledge that you read the syllabus." The concern with these is that they may have the side effect of setting the wrong tone for the course. As a student, those one question quizzes may indicate that that the course is going to contain busy work that does not enhance the learning of the subject.
